How much does NFC cost: business card vs. an implant?

As a rule, we still pay with our checking card or smartphone. For a few years now, people like Kim Egger have had implant chips transplanted under the skin of their wrist to read out information.

She's one of the few Germans who forgoes her credit card when she's out and about, preferring to hold out her wrist in a restaurant when the waiter brings the bill.

NFC technology has been used to transmit data since the 1970s. However, it is only in the last 9 years that the technology has become more and more widespread.

Meanwhile, some people use the micro chip not only to pay, but also to open their front door and share their data with other people via NFC device.

Insert implant

Within less than half an hour the implants are inserted, with which you can pay on the go, unlock your door or transfer other data from you.

Prices for NFC implants

The Digiwell brand sells implants for around 200 euros. This is not only a higher initial investment, you also need to get comfortable with this new technology that literally gets under your skin.

What can you do with an NFC implant?

NFC tags as an implant for payment

NFC tags are not only used to pay for supermarket purchases, but also to store medical data, open the front door and as business cards. We reveal how the business card also works without an implant under the skin and how you can save money in the process.

How does the NFC business card work at Lemontaps?

Maybe you already have an NFC business card in your possession and use it regularly. Or maybe you've been using the Lemontaps digital business card alone and you're eager to find out how an NFC business card works.

Advantage of Near field Communication

You are probably familiar with common connections like Bluetooth or WLAN. NFC is even less complicated than these two connections. Unlike Bluetooth or WLAN, a connection via NFC does not have to be established manually.

NFC tags

NFC tags are small, low-cost RFID tags that can be attached to a variety of surfaces. They can be connected to a smartphone or tablet over short distances. NFC tags can be used to store and transmit data, including information on business cards.

NFC chip

The NFC chips, which are responsible for the connection, establish a connection based on physical proximity alone, without the user having to intervene. NFC can communicate actively, i.e. send contact data, but it can also receive information passively. In passive mode, information can even be sent when the respective device is switched off.

Data transmission via chip

In this case, the energy for the transmission or connection is used from the radio frequency of the active device. If the NFC chip is working actively, information can be read out by itself.

For this, the respective device, or the energy source, must be switched on. NFC only works at a close spatial distance, namely a maximum of four centimeters.

The transmission rate is up to 424kBit/s and the frequency is 13.56 MHz. Compared to WLAN or Bluetooth, the transmission rate of NFC is rather slow. But in terms of connection speed, NFC is far ahead.

NFC Sticker

Near field communication was already used in the past for programming so-called stickers, these could be stuck to key fobs. However, you needed an extra app to program the commands. They are not usable for such a long time compared to the metal or wooden card.

Near field communication for business

Near field communication (NFC) offers companies many advantages. This technology makes it possible to transmit information over short distances.

NFC functions involve the use of business cards that contain a contactless chip. Business cards are easy to use and allow companies to communicate their identity and information to others.

NFC with the smartphone

To read an NFC business card with your smartphone, the Near Field Communication function must be activated on your smartphone.

iPhone

On iPhones, at least the newer models, NFC technology is automatically and always enabled. If you have an older iPhone model, open "Settings", then open "Control Center" and add "Tag Reader" to your Control Center.

Then the next time you open your Control Center, you'll see the NFC icon. To activate the NFC features, simply tap the NFC icon in your Control Center.

Android

The Near Field Communication function is never activated automatically on Android smartphones. To activate it, swipe down on the screen with two fingers to open the quick settings bar.

Then swipe to the left with one finger. Then tap on the NFC icon. If it is lit blue, then it is activated.

Share business card with NFC tag - possible uses of this technology

Do I need a special reader for the NFC card?

No, you just use your smartphone Android or iPhone and tap the business card or scan the QR code.

To share your digital business card with the NFC business card, you don't need to do anything except moving the NFC business card near the receivers' smartphone.

Android

For Android smartphones, you should swipe your NFC business card on the back from top to bottom until your digital business card opens on their screen.

Deployment Android devices

iPhone

For iPhones, you have to hold your NFC business card on the back of the smartphone against the upper area. Then your digital business card will open here as well.

Conclusion

In this article, we've looked at two near field communication options, what the costs are for the NFC business card as well as the implant, and what you can expect from an implant solution in comparison. In conclusion, NFC business cards are a straightforward and cost-effective solution to connect yourself and your business. They create a professional image without breaking the budget.

Whereas you first have to gain the necessary acceptance in your company for implants, the physical card is integrated into our everyday lives. Payments from customers are made with the smartphone, just like tapping the business card.

Implants with NFC are not priceless, but they are not so established in our current society and in the market that companies do without the physical business card. The future will show how this technology develops and whether it gains acceptance.

You as a company need an effective way to increase your reach and share contact information with customers in a contemporary way. Try our offers and convince yourself of this intelligent way of contact exchange.
